ANGELA MERASTY
REGISTERED MASTER SOCIAL WORKER
My name is Angela Merasty. I am Assin’skowitiniwak (Rocky Cree) from the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, Secwepemc (Shushwap) from the Bonaparte Indian Band, Irish and Dutch. I have lived here in the lower mainland for most of my life and absolutely adore the beauty of the coast.
My professional experience has been primarily in the realm of mental health and addictions, within the downtown eastside of Vancouver and in treatment facilities for co-occurring disorders. My approach is focused on individual empowerment, and I work to pull from both traditional and clinical healing methods to provide the best care for each individual. I am passionate about the ways that we as individuals and communities can heal from the effects of colonization. I hold a Masters of Social Work in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency from the University of Toronto and am registered with the BC College of Social Work. In addition to counselling in a private practice setting, I work for the Squamish Nation to provide mental health and addiction services.
