Indigenous Counsellor – Master of Social Work Degree (MSW)
Metro Vancouver Indigenous Counselling was created in response to the immense need for culturally safe mental health services in Indigenous communities throughout British Columbia. Our vision is to create a space where Indigenous and Ally counsellors can connect and grow their practices, while meeting the mental health needs of diverse Indigenous communities. Our counselling services are currently delivered exclusively through telehealth, however, we will be opening a physical location early this year.
Currently hiring an Indigenous counsellor who holds a master’s level degree in social work. Applicant must also be registered with the BC College of Social Workers or in the process of applying for their registration. This is a perfect opportunity for a recent Master’s level graduate looking to engage in private practice. Please provide a resume in applying for this position.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:
- Registered Social Worker with Master of Social Work Degree
- Reside in British Columbia
- Availability to see a minimum of 10 clients per week
- Ability to obtain liability insurance with a minimum $2,000,000 coverage before start date
We also welcome applications from recent graduates and clinicians in the process of obtaining their professional registrations with one of the aforementioned parties.
Responsibilities:
- Conducting initial client history and assessment to determine suitability for mental health services through First Nations Health Authority
- Delivery of individual mental health counselling in relation to client symptoms
- Maintaining records of client interactions and charting notes
- Collaborating with partner agencies when appropriate, ensuring continuation of client care
- Providing referrals to outside agencies when appropriate and engaging in ongoing discussions with external client care teams
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
- A minimum of two years’ experience working with organizations serving Indigenous communities in the areas of mental health or addictions
- A strong understanding of Indigenous cultures and the ability to apply this knowledge to the healing process
- A deep understanding of problematic substance use from biopsychosocial and spiritual perspectives
- A strong understanding of how to be trauma informed in practice
- Extensive experience managing caseloads, assessments, and referrals
- Knowledge, skills, and ability to apply western-based healing and wellness approaches
- Experience managing electronic health records

Salary:
Contractors will be compensated on a 60/40 fee-split basis, which looks as follows:
- Registered Master Social Workers compensated at $90/hour
Please Note:
Once hired, the credentialing process with insurers can take up to two months. We anticipate the successful applicant to have a full caseload within six months of hire.
