METRO VANCOUVER INDIGENOUS COUNSELLING

PROVIDING CULTURALLY SAFE COUNSELLING SERVICES

COUNSELLING HISTORY

Metro Vancouver Indigenous Counselling was created in response to the immense need for culturally safe mental health services for Indigenous peoples throughout British Columbia. Recognizing the barriers faced by Indigenous mental health clinicians and clinicians from historically racialized groups, our practice also aims to support counsellors on their private practice journey.

MISSION

Our mission is to increase access to culturally safe counselling, mental health, and wellness services for Indigenous peoples throughout British Columbia.

VISION

Our vision is to create a known and trusted space for Indigenous individuals seeking support with their mental health. A primary resource where individuals can be confident with the support they are receiving.

VALUES

COMMUNITY:

Together we are strong. Metro Vancouver Indigenous Counselling is a platform designed to connect Indigenous and ally counsellors to clients from throughout British Columbia. Creating a community of practice, counsellors are able to connect and share their gifts and expertise to best meet the needs of their clients.

CULTURE:

We understand that culture is central to the mental health treatment of Indigenous peoples. Our hope is to build a community of practice that will work together to meet this critical need in dynamic ways.

DIVERSITY:

We honour the diversity and understand the commonalities of the Indigenous experience. For this reason, our services are not bound to colonial representations of Indigeneity. We believe in bringing people together in strength and wellness.

SERVICE:

We provide a service that is free from the racism and discrimination that is rampant in mainstream healthcare. Supporting Indigenous and ally counsellors break into the field of private practice, we hope to increase access to culturally safe mental health services for Indigenous peoples.
