Crisis Counselling Policy

Please be advised: we are not an emergency service.

Metro Vancouver Indigenous Counselling is unable to prioritize requests that need urgent attention. If you are in a crisis or emergency, or are worried that you or a loved one is at risk of harm, please speak with someone immediately.

If you need help right now

Call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency room if you are afraid of hurting yourself or someone else, or if no other options are available.

Who this applies to. This policy applies to our individual counselling clients, including those funded through the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), extended health benefits, and private pay. Crisis counselling is not part of individual counselling. It is available only through our EFAP program, and as part of the crisis response we provide under contract to organizations and communities.

The KUU-US Indigenous Crisis Line is part of the Circle of Care and is available 24 hours a day. The 310 Mental Health Support line needs no area code; its crisis line workers listen and offer support with no judgement, and can help you find a program or tips for your own mental health.

For a fuller list of crisis, distress, and community support lines, visit our resources page. For non-urgent enquiries, you can contact us or call (604) 256-5850.
