About MVIC

Built around community, culture, and care.

An Indigenous-led team providing trauma-informed, culturally safe counselling, plus workplace and organizational wellness, across British Columbia.

Metro Vancouver Indigenous Counselling is based on the traditional territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations in Vancouver, BC. We offer trauma-informed, culturally safe mental health services to individuals across the province, and we partner with communities and organizations to strengthen the wellness of their members. Our team includes both Indigenous and non-Indigenous professionals, each bringing skill, knowledge, and deep experience working alongside Indigenous communities.
Why we exist

Purpose, mission & vision

Purpose

We were created in response to the immense need for culturally safe mental health services for Indigenous Peoples throughout British Columbia. We also support Indigenous counsellors, and counsellors from historically racialized groups, on their professional journeys.

Mission

To provide trauma-informed, culturally safe mental health services that honour the unique experiences of Indigenous individuals and communities, fostering holistic wellness by partnering with communities, empowering individuals, and offering culturally relevant training to organizations.

Vision

A future where Indigenous individuals and communities across British Columbia have access to compassionate, culturally grounded mental health care, with Indigenous voices and knowledge at the forefront of practice.

What guides us

Our values

01

Community

Together we are strong. We connect Indigenous and ally counsellors with clients throughout British Columbia, building a community of practice where counsellors share their gifts and expertise to best meet the needs of those they serve.

02

Culture

Culture is central to the mental health treatment of Indigenous Peoples. We build a community of practice that works together to meet this critical need in dynamic, respectful ways.

03

Diversity

We honour the diversity, and understand the commonalities, of the Indigenous experience. Our services are not bound to colonial representations of Indigeneity. We bring people together in strength and wellness.

04

Service

We provide a service free from the racism and discrimination that is too common in mainstream healthcare, while supporting Indigenous and ally counsellors entering private practice, so that access to culturally safe care continues to grow.
