Tansi! My name is Kristy Potskin. I come from Treaty 8 territory and am a member of Driftpile Cree Nation. I also have mixed European ancestry. I was born in Lheidli T’enneh territory (now known as Prince George) but have lived on Vancouver Island most of my life (residing on Quw’utsun and lək̓ʷəŋən lands) and currently practice from my home in T’Sou-ke territory (Sooke).
My experience has been working with Indigenous children and families, in child welfare as well as a community support. I am passionate about encouraging self-compassion, working with trauma, and understanding mental health and addiction within the context of colonialism. Lately, my academic interest has been exploring the lived realities of body size discrimination experienced by Indigenous people. My priority is creating a non-judgmental, collaborative space with clients that acknowledges and upholds their unique heritage, as well as the strength and resilience they already hold inside themselves.
I am a Registered Master Social Worker and my degree is granted by the University of Victoria, with an Indigenous Specialization.
