Counselling that comes to you.

Accessible, culturally safe counselling for community members in the Downtown Eastside: in supportive or transitional housing, at a community space, or wherever you feel comfortable meeting.

Not everyone can get to an office, and not everyone wants to. Community outreach counselling brings a registered counsellor to where you already are: your building, a room at an organization you trust, a walk, or a quiet corner of a community space. Sessions can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 90, weekly or whenever works, on your terms. It is the same culturally safe, trauma-informed counselling we offer everywhere else, without the barrier of having to come to us.
How it works

Counselling on your terms

Sessions where you are

Supportive housing, transitional housing, shelters, community organizations, or outdoors. We come to the place you name.

Short or long, your call

Thirty minutes on a hard day, ninety when there is a lot to say. Weekly, every two weeks, or as needed.

Steady and non-judgemental

Substance use, grief, trauma, housing stress, and the rest of life are met with respect, patience, and no conditions attached.

Coverage & funding

Funded outreach counselling

Outreach sessions are funded through the First Nations Health Authority's Mental Health & Wellness Program for eligible clients. We also work with extended health, band and agency funding, and private pay, and we can help you find out what you're eligible for.

FNHA Mental Health & Wellness

Through the First Nations Health Authority, eligible First Nations and Indigenous clients in B.C. can access professional counselling to support their mental health and wellness, funded by FNHA.

Extended health benefits

Many workplace and private extended health plans cover counselling sessions. We're glad to help you check what your plan includes before you book.

Band, agency & private pay

We also work with band and agency funding and private pay, so cost doesn't have to stand between you and the support you need.

If you're not sure how your sessions might be covered, reach out and we'll help you find out what you're eligible for.

Reach out, or have someone reach out for you.

Apply online, call us, or ask a support worker, housing staff member, or friend to get in touch on your behalf. We'll follow up to arrange a first meeting wherever suits you.

Good to know

Common questions

Where do outreach sessions happen?

Wherever you are comfortable: your supportive or transitional housing, a room at an organization you already know, a community space, or outdoors. You choose the place; we come to you.

Do I need a referral or an address?

No. You can apply yourself, or a support worker, housing staff member, or friend can reach out for you. A phone number or an email for you or for someone who can pass on a message is enough to get started.

How long are sessions?

Between 30 and 90 minutes. Some days a short check-in is right; other days there is more to work through. You set the pace.

Is it confidential?

Yes. What you share stays between you and your counsellor, with the same limits as any counselling: if someone is in immediate danger, or where the law requires it.

What if I use substances?

You are welcome as you are. Changing your relationship with substances can be part of the work if you want it to be, in non-judgemental ways and at your pace, but it is never a condition of support.
