Accepting ClientsAbout Melissa S.
Melissa Shimizu is a counselling practicum student completing her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, on the path toward becoming a Registered Clinical Counsellor. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Simon Fraser University and offers pro-bono counselling by telehealth across British Columbia through Metro Vancouver Indigenous Counselling.
She brings both education and lived experience to her practice, with firsthand understanding of stress, burnout, anxiety, and the challenge of balancing work and family. As a mother of two, she knows how quickly competing responsibilities can become overwhelming.
Her approach is humanistic, person-centred, and strengths-based, grounded in the belief that people can grow and heal in the right conditions. She offers a warm, non-judgmental, culturally safe space, drawing on solution-focused strategies to support practical, goal-oriented change toward greater balance, resilience, and a stronger sense of control.
